Gutter Installation: Key Details & Options

Schedule a convenient on-site visit and get a detailed, no-obligation quote.
We start every project with a free field assessment. Our team will measure your building, inspect your roofline and current gutters, and discuss your needs and preferences. After the assessment, we provide a comprehensive written estimate – often with options ranging from cost-effective fixes to high-performance upgrades – so you can choose what’s best for your budget. We save all measurements and notes from the visit, making future follow-ups easy.

Choosing the right gutter size to handle West Coast rain.
We offer both 5″ and 6″ seamless gutters, and we’ll help you pick the ideal size for your home. 5-inch gutters are the standard on most houses and work well for average roof areas and rainfall. 6-inch gutters have a larger capacity, which is great for bigger roofs, steep pitches, or areas with torrential Vancouver Island downpours. If you have a lot of roof surface or many tall trees, the larger size can prevent overflow by catching more water (and debris). Our crew will assess your roof and rainfall exposure to recommend the gutter size that keeps water where it belongs – in the gutters and away from your foundation.

  • 5″ Gutters: Perfect for most homes and moderate rainfall, with a low-profile look.

  • 6″ Gutters: Higher capacity for heavy rain and large or complex roofs (fewer overflows).

  • Expert Advice: We consider your roof size, slope, and tree cover to suggest the best fit.

Keep gutters flowing freely with smart add-ons for debris management.
Clogged downspouts are a common issue here on the Island, so we often recommend installing funnels (large outlets) and leaf cleanout boxes as simple upgrades. A wide outlet funnel at the gutter-to-downspout connection drastically increases water flow into the downspout, preventing bottlenecks during heavy rain. Leaf boxes (also known as cleanouts or drain traps) are small boxes or strainers placed in-line or at the bottom of downspouts. They catch leaves, needles, and moss before this debris can travel into your underground drain or perimeter drain system. Both of these add-ons are affordable but make a big difference in performance and maintenance: your gutters drain faster and are easier to clean, and you’re far less likely to face a clogged drain pipe.

  • Large Outlets (Funnels): Increases the downspout intake size, allowing water to exit the gutter much faster (reduces overflow in big storms).

  • Leaf Cleanout Box: An accessible trap that catches leaves and pine needles before they can clog your buried drain pipes.

  • Low-Cost, High-Impact: These simple additions keep your water flowing and make upkeep a breeze – a small investment for a problem-free gutter system.

Block debris and boost gutter strength with premium gutter guards.
Tired of cleaning out leaves? We are proud to be an elite installer of Alu-Rex leaf protection systems – some of the best gutter guards in Canada. Alu-Rex guards serve two purposes: they keep your gutters from clogging and they reinforce the gutters themselves. For new installations, we often use the T-Rex Continuous Hanger system, a heavy-duty aluminum guard that mounts on top of your gutters. It acts as a cover to block leaves and also as a continuous support, making the gutter incredibly strong (no more weak spots between hangers!). For the ultimate protection, Alu-Rex offers DoublePro, a dual-layer micro-mesh guard that blocks even tiny debris like pine needles and seeds – ideal for our evergreen-heavy locales. Both T-Rex and DoublePro come with a lifetime clog-free warranty, so you can skip the ladder chores for good. If you already have gutters in good shape, we can also install Alu-Rex retrofit guards (such as the Gutter Clean System) onto your existing gutters. That means you get the benefits of a covered, self-cleaning gutter without needing a full gutter replacement.

  • T-Rex Continuous Hanger: Installed with new gutters to form a seamless, super-strong gutter guard that keeps out debris.

  • DoublePro Micro-Mesh: Premium two-layer guard that stops even fine pine needles and roof grit – the best solution for heavily treed properties.

  • Retrofit Options: Have old gutters? We can add Alu-Rex guards to your current gutters to prevent clogs, extending their life and saving you hassle.

Healthy fascia boards mean a longer-lasting gutter system.
Your gutters are only as secure as the fascia they’re mounted to. The fascia board is the horizontal wood board running along your roof edge, and it’s basically the anchor for your gutters. As part of our service, we always inspect the condition of your fascia boards during the quote and installation. If the wood is rotting, soft, or damaged, it’s important to address it – a gutter can’t hold tight to weakened wood. We can replace any bad sections of fascia before hanging your new gutters to ensure a solid, lasting fit. Additionally, for added protection, we offer fascia cladding: we can wrap your fascia (and even gable boards) in aluminum to shield the wood from the elements. Cladding dramatically slows down any future weathering or rot by keeping moisture off the wood. In short, we make sure the backbone of your gutter system – the fascia – is in great shape so your new gutters stay firmly in place for years to come.

  • Fascia Inspection: We check the wood behind your gutters for rot or weakness.

  • Repair or Replace: Any compromised boards? We’ll replace them so your new gutters have a solid foundation.

  • Protective Cladding: Optionally, we can wrap your fascia in metal to prevent rot and reduce maintenance (great for our damp climate).

Expertly sealed gutter corners that won’t leave you with leaks.
Corners are the trickiest part of any gutter installation – and one of the most common spots for leaks if not done right. We take extra care with corner joints, whether it’s an inside corner or an outside turn. Every gutter style (especially the modern fascia-style gutters with flat fronts) has its own quirks, and over the years we’ve perfected techniques to seal all types of gutter corners neatly and permanently. We never cut corners on corners: our installers use high-quality, exterior-grade silicone sealant and apply it with skill for a watertight finish. You’ll notice the difference – clean-looking joints and no drips in the painful spots (like over your walkways or deck). We’ve seen too many sloppy jobs by inexperienced crews where corners start leaking within the first year. That won’t happen with our work. With our proven methods and materials, your gutter corners will stay dry and secure through all seasons.

  • Specialized Techniques: Different gutter profiles require different sealing methods – we’ve mastered them all (even those tricky flat fascia gutters).

  • Quality Sealants: We use only professional-grade silicone and apply it generously but neatly to ensure a long-lasting seal.

  • No More Leaks: Our attention to detail at corners means you won’t have surprise drips or water damage where gutters meet.

trong support that keeps your gutters straight and secure.
A gutter system is only as good as its fasteners. We often find that the number one cause of gutter failures isn’t the gutter material wearing out – it’s the hangers or screws coming loose over time. That’s why we use high-quality hangers and the proper fastener schedule on every install. Instead of the old spikes or flimsy clips that can loosen as wood expands or contracts, we use modern hidden hangers screwed firmly into the fascia at close intervals. Our hangers are heavy-duty and rust-resistant, and the screws are specialized for exterior use (they won’t shear off or back out like cheaper ones might). With the right hardware in the right configuration, your gutters stay level and secure even under the weight of heavy rain, wet leaves, or the occasional ladder leaning against them. We’ve replaced countless gutters where the metal itself was fine, but the attachments failed. So we make sure to do it right from the start – giving your new gutters a strong backbone so they last for the long haul.

  • Quality Hardware: We use premium hidden hangers and sturdy exterior-grade screws (no unreliable spikes).

  • Proper Spacing: Hangers are installed at industry-recommended intervals (or closer) to prevent sagging.

  • Built to Last: Secure fasteners mean your gutters won’t pull loose, even under heavy loads or Vancouver Island’s wild weather.

Prevent water from sneaking behind your gutters with drip edge flashing.
Do your roof shingles end flush with (or short of) the edge of your roof? On many older or renovated homes, we’ve seen shingles that don’t extend far enough into the gutter. Short shingles can cause rainwater to cling to the roof edge and drip behind the gutters instead of into them – which leads to rotten fascia boards and leaks along your eaves. Not to worry: we know how to spot and fix this issue. If your shingles are too short, we install a drip edge: a simple metal flashing that slides under the shingles and hangs just over the gutter. This drip edge guides the water into the gutter, protecting your fascia from backflow. It’s a small but crucial detail that can save you from major headaches down the road. We include drip edge installation whenever it’s needed, especially if we notice telltale signs (like water stains on the fascia or soffit). Our goal is to ensure all the water goes into your gutters as intended – no surprises.

  • The Problem: Shingles that end too short or even with the fascia can let water bypass the gutter and cause wood rot.

  • Our Solution: We add drip edge flashing under the roof edge to direct rain properly into the gutters.

  • Why It Matters: Drip edges are inexpensive but protect your fascia and soffits from costly water damage (a must in our rainy climate).

Flexible, reliable service for builders and new home projects.
Building a new house or addition? We frequently work with contractors and home builders across Vancouver Island to install gutters on new construction. Our team understands the construction process and can seamlessly fit into your project timeline. We’re happy to coordinate with your site supervisor to schedule the gutter installation at just the right phase (after roofing is done, before final landscaping, etc.). For new builds, we can even put up temporary downspout extensions to safely route water away from the foundation until permanent drainage is in place – protecting your site from erosion or water pooling during construction. We offer special collaboration benefits for contractors, such as prompt estimates, priority scheduling, and reliable communication to keep your project on track. Our goal is to be a hassle-free partner: you get quality gutters installed efficiently, so you can focus on the rest of the build. Whether it’s a single custom home or a multi-house development, we bring the same level of professionalism and workmanship every time.
